Miombo: The Forest That Earns More Than You

Welcome back to some more good news!
A bit of a shorter issue this week, focused on all science, policy, and business.
Science
This Forest Made More Than You This Year

Credit: Mongabay
The Miombo woodlands have recently been found to be storing as much as twice as much as previously estimated
Roughly 3.7 BILLION metric tons of carbon
The new calculation was done using LIDAR technology to better map greenergy on the ground and beyond just the trees
Benefit of a more accurate estimate:
The value of the forest essentially doubles since the carbon stored has doubled - this makes it more costly to remove
It's now becoming less and less attractive to cut this forest down from an economical impact (never mind the environmental view!)
Business
Energy Efficient Carbon Capture

Credit: Spiritus
Spiritus is a new startup focused on DAC (Direct Air Capture). Its upcoming facility will have the capability of removing 1,000 tons of CO2. per year
Will be located in New Mexico and eventually scaled up in Wyoming
Spiritus uses a new, novel, passive approach as compared to the typical energy-intensive DAC processes.
Currently, Spiritus plans to sell the captured CO2 to projects that will make more fuel.
